School transportation is a $16 billion industry that employs over 500,000 people who transport more than 25 million children to and from school every school day. Yet many of the people who work in the industry don’t realize all that it has to offer as a career. NAPT believes that if we can make pupil transportation an attractive career choice – one that follows a logical and realistically attainable progression – we will attract the best drivers, technicians, operations specialists and especially managers.
The NAPT Professional Development Series (PDS) was created to provide the foundation for an increasingly successful career in pupil transportation and help NAPT members become recognized leaders among their peers. The NAPT PDS consists of nearly 40 different courses that are divided among three different training tracks – specialist, supervisor or director – that are each built upon a base of core course and offer opportunities for self-directed, elective learning. The curriculum for each professional development level requires a specific number of training courses.
